General information about the Canary Islands!

The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of the largest Canary Islands in Spain, Tenerife. The city is located in the northeast of the island and has 223,148 inhabitants. The area is managed from Santa Cruz and stretches into the sparsely populated Anaga Mountains in the east of the island. The city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on the beautiful island of Gran Canaria is the largest city in the Canary Islands with around 400,000 inhabitants Islands. Las Palmas is the capital of the Autonomous Region of the Canary Islands. The local port is important.

The Canary Island of Gran Canaria :

Works council foundations:

This island is the 3rd largest island in the Canaries. It is often considered a miniature continent because plants from all over Europe, America and Africa grow here. In the capital of the island of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria there are a lot of historically and architecturally interesting buildings. In particular, the old town of Barrio de la Vegueta, where there are stately houses that were strongly influenced by the influences of the Spanish colonial architecture. The very impressive Gothic church of Santa Ana Cathedral is right on Plaza Santa Ana. The archbishop's palace and other buildings in the typical Canarian style that can only be found here are also located here. You should also visit the Casa de Colón, which is dedicated to the famous Spanish explorer Christopher Columbus, as well as the beautiful sanctuary of San Antonio Abad. Columbus even prayed here. There are many museums in Las Palmas. You should visit the Museo Canario. There is an exhibition about the ancient culture of the former inhabitants of Gran Canaria. The Church of Santo Domingo can be found near the museum. Inside you can find pictures of saints by Lujan Perez as well as a Mexican baroque monstrance. Between the Juan Rejon (street) and the fishing port lies the beautiful old fortress Castello de la Luz, a very popular photo opportunity. The botanical garden Jardín Canario is about 8 km from the city of Las Palmas. It shows all the splendor of the flora in the Canary Islands.

There are more than 500 plant species only here. A trip to Arucas is a good way to get to know the island better. Here is a well-known sugar cane growing area. Arucas rum is famous. The rum factories can also be visited.Maspalomas, probably the oldest resort on the island, is the most important sports port on the whole island. The nature-protected dunes in the southeast of Maspalomas are very worth seeing. Some of them are up to 2 km wide and 6 km long. The famous resort of Playa del Inglés is probably the largest tourist center on the island. This place was created during the 1960s and 70s. It was the result of the emerging mass tourism. In the north of Gran Canaria, in Gâldar, the world of the indigenous people can be admired. On display are idols, paintings, ceramic vessels as well as stone and bone tools. Mogan is located in the south-west. This is a picturesque fishing village with romantic alleys and beautiful little houses. There is also an ethnology museum. It can be found in Villa des Agüimes and in San Mateo. A very nice trip is a trip to the mountain villages of Fataga and Santa Lucia. A small detour to the well-known Bandama volcano crater is particularly recommended.

The Canary Island of Fuerteventura:

The island of Fuerteventura is actually part of the African continent and is of volcanic origin. A good 38 million years ago, this oldest of the Canary Islands was created by volcanic activity. It was only through tremendous tectonic forces that plates shifted from the ocean floor. Fragments of these plates were placed at an angle and were visible above sea level.

The Canary Island of Lanzarote - the idiosyncratic:

Lanzarote is the Canary Island closest to Europe. And yet the traveler appears to be entering an enchanted world here. Mountains of fire and frozen lava flows in Timanfaya National Park give an idea of ??the primeval forces of the earth. The El Diablo restaurant serves grilled fish from the devil's kitchen, pardon from the volcanic grill. The heat of the ground ignites dry straw at a shallow depth. Where the glowing lava flows once met the sea, the waves break on the dark cliffs and the surf thunders up foaming white. The inhabitants of the island know how to use the special features of the volcanic soil. Tomatoes, onions and sweet potatoes are often grown by hand. The Malvasia, an aromatic dessert wine, is grown in the region around Uga and La Geria. Cozy bodegas invite you to wine tasting.

The Canary Island of La Gomera:

The island of La Gomera, which was conquered by the Spaniards in 1404, is around 1,000 kilometers from the Spanish coast. With a total area of ??around 370 square kilometers, the old sun island with volcanic origin is the second smallest island in the Canaries.
